Refractive surgery

Refractive surgery corrects visual deffects in order to reduce or stop using glasses. In the Clínica de Oftalmología de Cali you can find a specialized correcting refractive unit as myopía, Hipermetropy y Astigmatism. This is an outpatient procedure that usually requires a day off.

Pre-surgical care

To determine if the patient is fit for surgery should be performed a number of specialzed test in the refractive surgery unit. If the patient uses soft contact lenses, needs to stop using the at least two weekes before the test and one month if uses hard contact lenses.

Post- surgical care

Avoid the long exposure of solar light and wear sunglasses with UV protection for at least 3 months.

Pterygium surgery

A pterygium is an abnormal growth of tissue inflammation of the conjunctiva ( thin, transparent tissue that covers the outer surface of the eye ), which tends to go from the white of the eye into the tissue of the cornea (anterior and transparent surface eye).
Causes
The exact cause is unknown. It is more common in people who have a lot of exposure to sunlight and wind , as is the case of people who work outdoors. Risk factors are exposure to sunny, dusty , sandy , or windblown areas.

Pre surgical care

The diagnosis depends on the valuation of the specialist before surgery , in order to schedule the surgery. You can not make an assessment via the web. The medical recommendation are that the surgery is performed on one eye first and 10 days after the other eye , this recommendation is tied to medical diagnosis.

Post surgical care

Control 5 days after the procedure. Must remain at least 10 days in the city.

Cataract surgery

Consist in a clouding of the lens of the eye that serves to focus and is normally clear and transparent. It is not a tumor or formation of new skin or tissue on the eye; neither can be called disease, but rather aging eye.

In the Clinic, we use ultrasonic energy through a minimally invasive surgery to fractionate in particles the cloudy lens with a phacoemulsification equipment and then lens is aspirated from the eye.

The initial consultation with your specialist is very important; be ready to give the necessary information, the specialist needs to know your medical history before surgery. Be sure to tell to your specialist if you are allergic, if you are taking vitamins, medications (whether prescription or any other drug), if you have a special medical condition like.

Post surgical care

  • Avoid heavy lifting.
  • Avoid places with high temperatures (stoves, sauna, Turkish)
  • Use glasses with sun protection.
  • Avoid water in your eyes.

Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure for removing excess of skin and muscle in the eyelids ,both above and below , as well as pockets of fat . This surgery is done for cosmetic reasons. Blepharoplasty is the second most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in America, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons . Eyelid surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia which numbs the area around the eyes with oral or intravenous sedatives . You will be awake during surgery but relaxed and insensitive to pain. Some surgeons prefer general anesthesia. In that case, you ‘ll sleep through the operation.

You and your surgeon should carefully discuss your goals and expectations for this surgery . Should discuss whether you need to treat all four eyelids or just the upper or lower and if appropriate additional operations.

Post-operative care

Bed rest for 24 to 48 hours, then continue with relative rest for 8 days. In case of pain , take painkillers as directed by the doctor.
